Heartland FBLA Attends the Nebraska State Leadership Conference

Twenty-eight Heartland FBLA members attended the Nebraska State Leadership Conference in Kearney on April 10-12. Nine students won 15 awards during the three-day conference.

Students attending the conference along with adviser Karma Yantzie and parent chaperones Stephanie Buzek and Sarah Goertzen were: (Seniors) Luis Alvarez, Jaelyn Brown, Creighton Friesen, Brady Goertzen, Lydia Jahnke, Isabel Johnson, Jamisen Klein, Siddalee Kliewer, Emersyn Oswald and Austin Schmidt; (Juniors) Samuel Friesen, Mia Hiebner, Will Regier, Laura Splinter, Holden Switzer, Hallie Tessman; (Sophomores) Tara Buzek, Meggan Friesen, Maddox Regier, and Ariane Sololuze; (Freshmen) Kali Barta, Ashlyn Friesen, Kate Haidle, Sophie Minary, Cadence Swim, and Julia Tessman.

The keynote speaker of the opening session was Kyle Willkom, a keynote speaker, author, and entrepreneur. He is focused on helping young people become the best versions of themselves.

The leadership conference was filled with testing, presenting, and job interviewing. The group also enjoyed the amenities offered by the Younes conference center location including bowling and mini golf. The top eight winners in each event were announced at the awards program on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

The students who placed in the top of each event will represent Nebraska at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California this summer. The following students won top eight awards:

The following students won Honorable Mention awards which recognized those who placed in the top 4% of each competitive event:

Austin Schmidt earned Who’s Who in Nebraska FBLA for our chapter.

Congratulations to all members for a great conference! We're proud to announce that Tara and Austin will represent one of the 12 top-scoring teams in the LifeSmarts FBLA Challenge at the National Leadership Conference this summer! The LifeSmarts FBLA Challenge is a dynamic, knowledge-based competition that kicks off online. Out of hundreds of participants across the nation, the top 12 teams from the Fall and Spring Challenges earn the chance to compete live and in person at the NLC.

At the Nebraska State Leadership Conference, Mrs. Yantzie was recognized for 20 years of service as an FBLA adviser. She has spent two decades helping students grow as leaders and preparing them for the future. Thank you, Mrs. Yantzie, for your dedication and hard work!
