Heartland Students Attended Careers in Ag Day
Launch the media gallery 1 playerCornerstone Bank hosted their 36th Annual Careers in Ag Day event on September 23, 2026, at the Holthus Center in York, NE. Nine Heartland FFA members attended the event.
Guest speakers represented nine career sectors of agriculture. Students could choose four breakout sessions to attend where they were able to learn about vet and livestock management, trucking and welding, ag education and extension, livestock profit protection, ag risk and commodities, ag finance and farming, farm to table, entrepreneurship, and ag construction. Between sessions, students heard from keynote speaker Matt McGinn from McGinn Ranch.
Matt gave the students eight things to think about:
(1) Dream bigger than your circumstances. Your starting point doesn’t determine your destination.
(2) Know where you’re going, create a vision.
(3) Do the work when nobody is watching.
(4) Stay a student. Learn from everything around you by reading, learning, and observing.
(5) Don’t be afraid to be different. You don’t have to follow the crowd to build and do something meaningful.
(6) Find good people, then become one.
(7) Stay humble and keep moving forward. Success isn’t the finish line, because there is always more to learn.
(8) Take care of what you’ve been given, from your body and mind to your teammates and the land.
To finish the day, students learned more about smart credit. They were told to follow the five rules of building credit:
(1) Pay every bill on time.
(2) Don’t borrow money you can’t repay.
(3) Pay your credit card to zero.
(4) Don’t apply to multiple credit cards just because you can.
(5) Check your credit report for errors and fraud.
