Quiz Bowl Competed at SNC Meet
The Heartland Quiz Bowl Team traveled to Clay Center to attend the SNC Quiz Bowl competition hosted by Sandy Creek. The afternoon started with one practice round for each team to review the rules and allow the workers to work out the kinks followed by a double-elimination tournament.
The B team faced the A team from Wilber-Clatonia in their practice round and lost a close match. Unfortunately, their first round match was against the same team, and they were again defeated. The team then faced the eventual conference runner-up A team from Thayer Central and were handed their second loss.
The A team started the day with a close match against the B team from Thayer Central and won 70-60. The first round of the tournament paired the Huskies with the A team from Thayer Central. The team was locked in and defeated the Titans 140-15. The team then faced and defeated the A team from Centennial before being defeated by the B team from Centennial. The loss to the Broncos put the team in the bottom of the bracket for a rematch against the Thayer Central A team. Unfortunately, the results were flipped and the Huskies ended the day with a 3-2 record. Sandy Creek finished as the SNC champions and Thayer Central was runner-up.
The quiz bowl team has two more competitions this spring. They will travel to Seward on April 1 to compete in the History/Geography contest and then the underclassmen will compete on May 6 in Seward in a contest designed to prepare for next season. Current eighth through eleventh graders are allowed to compete.
