Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Heartland and Hampton sports co-op is well underway into the fall. The success of the program is apparent by the dedication put forward. Commitment from the school board to meet together with the community and the negotiations team. Commitment from Mr. Klein on so many levels, not to mention his experience in writing the 80+ page contract. Commitment from our Athletic Director, Mr. Struckman, as he handles the scheduling logistics, coach hiring, communications, uniforms, and so on. Dedication from the coaches to get to know the athletes from all three towns of Henderson, Bradshaw, and Hampton. They meet, plan, and train at all levels, working to ensure no athlete gets overlooked. Most importantly, dedication and courage from the student-athletes to try something new. And there are many others involved: principals, bus drivers, office staff, the booster club, parents, grandparents, and the community. It has truly been all hands-on deck. There were hundreds of hours behind the scenes filled with conversations, emails, phone calls, and meetings. Admin, AD, and coach meetings remain ongoing weekly, monthly, pre-season, and post-season.
And why all of this? I go back to our first meetings and conversations. Greater development: Athletes have better experiences when they can compete at their ability and level. Greater competition: Together they sharpen one another's skills and play off each other's strengths. Long term foundation: Consistent growth and stability.
I just want to give a big thank you to the Heartland community for supporting our athletes. You bought the Bearcat gear, put some gas in your tank, showed up, and cheered them on. You’re awesome! Teams are finding their new groove, athletes are improving their skills, and friendships are well underway as we enter some of the best years of Bearcat history.
As we soon vote to renew the contract, we evaluate and reflect on your experiences as well as our own. We are right there in the stands with you, parenting our own children through these changes, talking to many of you, all while holding up our end as elected officials. On any given day, you can find us at games or around town. We hold public comment at our monthly board meetings on the second Monday of each month.
