5 FFA Members Qualified for State Land Judging

On Wednesday, October 9, Heartland FFA members attended District Land Judging in Wood River, Nebraska.  Students were tasked with looking at various characteristics of land that included type of soil, permeability of the soil, slope, and erosion.  Based off of their measurements, they were then tasked with placing the land in a certain capability class and giving recommended treatments. The treatments given to the land are to help conserve the land and treat the land so that the best nutrients can get to the plants.  There were 24 Heartland members that competed. In total, there were 326 FFA members in the South Central area that competed on Wednesday.

Five Heartland members qualified for state competition.

  • Lauren Quiring placed 2nd overall, followed by Tyler Lewis (receiving 3rd), Aaron Goertzen (receiving 8th), Alex Goertzen (receiving 19th), and Mason Heibner (receiving 41st).
  • Quiring will compete as an individual.
  • Lewis, Goertzen, Goertzen, and Hiebner will be competing as a team.

State Land Judging will be held in the South East area this year, in Tecumseh, NE.
