Heartland FBLA Members Receive Awards at Commissioner's Recognition Ceremony
The Nebraska Department of Education and Deputy Commissioner Marge Harouff hosted the Commissioner’s Recognition for Student Excellence in Career Education on November 24 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy presented the awards to students and congratulated them on their success. Eight FBLA members from Nebraska that placed first, second or third at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta this past summer were honored.
Clint Kroeker, a senior at Heartland Community Schools, received an award for placing second in Accounting II. Brianna Rader, a senior at Heartland Community Schools, received an award for placing third in Accounting II. The Accounting II test consisted of a computer production test and an objective test that tested participants’ knowledge of accounting principles and procedures for sole proprietorships, partnerships and corporations.
Tori Bittinger, a sophomore at Heartland Community Schools, received an award for placing second in Word Processing I. In Word Processing I, participants need to demonstrate proficiency in word processing by completing tasks such as mail merge, letters, reports and tables. Participants also take a written exam which consists of terminology, English skills, and proofreading ability.
Future Business Leaders of America prepares students for careers in business or business-related occupations. Over 5,200 students in grades 7-12 in 135 Nebraska high schools participate in the FBLA innovative leadership and career development program. The Career Education Foundation of Nebraska sponsored a reception at the Governor’s Residence following the awards ceremony.
Also attending the ceremony were Mark and Rita Kroeker, Brian and Sharla Rader, Jackie Bittinger, Blaine Friesen and Kristy Most.
