News from 8th Grade Careers Class
The HCS 8th Grade Careers Class has been busy considering future endeavors and paths to reach their goals.
One way they have done this is by playing Reality Check on EducationQuest.com to see if their job's salary matches with their proposed expenses. Students had balanced budgets, budget deficits, and budget surplus. For some of them, it was a reality check on how far their salary would go.
Last Thursday, Central Community College (CCC) came to their class and then was available for high school students to get information. Students earned prizes for their questions about college. Eighth graders learned about the cost of community college, living on campus, the different programs, and how they fit in the career clusters.
For another lesson, students played a career game where they had to match four cards from a career. The matching set had the career listed, the description of the career, education required, where in Nebraska they can go for training, and an annual salary. Students were able to learn about 20 different careers through this activity.
