Dual Credit Opportunities

By Sundberg, Micah on January 22, 2022

One course is currently offered at HCS for dual credit: Calculus. Southeast Community College awards the college credit and it is taught at school with Mrs. Buzek during the school day. Tuition for each class is around $200. Southeast Community College offers a variety of other classes through the SENCAP (Southeast Nebraska Career Academy Partnership) Career Academy path and DC Advantage path. If a student registers for a SENCAP/Career Academy course and passes/finishes the class, there is no tuition charged to the student.

SENCAP: Each year there are numerous courses offered by Southeast Community College for dual credit. Students are given a discount when taking these courses. SCC pays for half and Heartland pays for the other half as long as the student finishes the course with a C or better. The only cost for the student is the book. They are centered around these main career areas: Health Science, Business, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Education and Agriculture. Some courses are offered online, some meet face-to-face in York. Click here to find out more about the Career Academy and the free college tuition opportunities it offers. DC Advantage: Each year there are numerous courses offered by Southeast Community College for dual credit. Students are given a discount when taking these courses. SCC pays for half and the student pays for the other half (approx. $170) and the book. They are centered around these main career areas: Health Science, Business, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Education and Agriculture. Some courses are offered online, some meet face-to-face in York.

There are many other colleges that offer dual credit and college credit only opportunities to high school students. As with any credit a student may want to transfer, it is best to check with colleges to which you may want to transfer the credit to find out about that colleges transfer policies.
