Veterans Day Program 2025

The 13th Annual Heartland Community Schools Veterans Day Program was held on Tuesday, November 11.

National Honor Society students facilitated the program.

A welcome was given by Emma Ott followed by the singing of the national anthem by the high school choir.

Elementary essay winners then presented to the audience.

  • McKinley Hiebner (3rd place)
  • Levi Haidle (2nd place)
  • James Janzen (1st place)

Following the elementary essays, the third and fourth graders performed the song, "For the Good of the Many."

Maddie Janzen announced the elementary coloring contest winners from each grade level.

The audience then had the opportunity to hear from the secondary essay winners.

  • Maylie Friensen (3rd place)
  • Ryker Stebbing (2nd place)
  • Tori Thieszen (1st place)

To recognize the veterans in attendance, Tara Buzek and Mia Hiebner had the veteran stand, and their service record was read.

Each year, the FFA creates and distributes a number of metal "Veteran" yard signs. Receiving theirs this year was: Tommy Carr, Jerome Chvatal, Jeff Dunsmoor, Joe Pankratz, and Mike Sabell.

Abby Nolan and Kate Franz led the audience in a singing of, "God Bless America."

This year's guest speaker was former Heartland superintendent, Brad Best. He opened by acting as a family member who had received a letter form their loved one in the service. It was a meaningful illustration. In his speech, he shared about the variety of roles military personnel can have, the sacrifice of the entire family, and how ongoing freedom must be earned.

Mr. Best was also the one who started the Veterans Day Program at Heartland in 2012. In recognition of this, he was awarded a plaque.

Following a closing by Haley Beck and the playing of "Taps," refreshments were served to the veterans and their families.

Thank you, veterans!

Thank also to the Heartland National Honor Society and Mrs. Ruhl for facilitating the program. We appreciate Henderson State Bank sponsoring the essay contest by providing monetary prizes for the students.
