Heartland Middle School Students Exceed Goal
When students at Heartland Middle School in Bradshaw heard about a need from Habitat for Humanity, they set out to make a difference. Last fall, when York County Habitat for Humanity representative, Amelia Patrie came to Heartland students in Bradshaw she had a story to tell. She told of families right in York County who do not have adequate housing. The story made sense to the young people at the Bradshaw attendance center and they set to work doing their part to help. Public service is not new to these students. Last year, they painted new house numbers on the curb in front of every house in Bradshaw. This year students set a goal of collecting 1000 pounds of aluminum to contribute to Habitat for Humanity-York County. This would help the York County chapter in its goal of collecting 5000 pounds in order to be eligible for a grant application to build a home for a family. By collecting, counting and keeping track of their progress students achieved their goal and exceeded it by nearly 200 pounds. Congratulations fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders!
