CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS CUSTOMS

Mariah researched Germany and found out that the idea of decorating a Christmas tree and putting up an Advent calendar and wreath originally started there.

Fifth graders are looking forward to sharing some of their favorite Christmas traditions with the eight senior citizens of Bradshaw they call each day at the Christmas party they are planning for Dec. 19.

Through the Tel-A-Care program, each day the 5th graders take turns calling these eight seniors to see if they are all right and if they need anything.

Andrea made the ornament from Austria, the Christkind Angel. Tanner made the Polish ornament chain (Poland). Cody researched France and made the Sabot (wooden shoe) candy holder.

As part of the 5th graders' research they're doing about Christmas customs in Social Studies, they now will be able to hear about Christmas customs these seniors had when they were children.

The Tel-A-Care program sounds like a great experience for both the students and the Senior's. I hope that such programs can continue, and relationships are developed that will bring joy to all involved. What a great idea!
