Math Students Compete at Thayer Central

Thayer Central Middle School Math Contest

Nine Heartland students traveled to Hebron on May 4, 2016, to compete in a middle school math competition.  The students first competed in a 40 minute individual math competition consisting of 50 questions.  After that, students competed in teams of three on a 15 minute grade level team test.  The competition ended with a math quiz bowl tournament for each grade level.  Individual awards were given to the top five students in each grade level, while team awards were given to the top team in the team test and quiz bowl tournament.  All scores were then combined to award the top three middle school teams overall.  Our Heartland students did an outstanding job in this competition. The 6th grade team, consisting of Tyler Lewis, Carson Ott, and Kale Wetjen, received 1st place in both the quiz bowl and team competition.  The 7th grade team, made of Ellyn Hall, Lauren Quiring, and Nema Stracener, received 1st place in the quiz bowl competition, while Lauren Quiring earned 3rd place in the individual competition. The 8th grade team, consisting of Timberly Carr, Odessa Ohrt, and Halle Peters, competed well and contributed to the Heartland students earning the 2nd place trophy overall.  Congratulations to these students on a job well done!
