Dizzy Disasters: Nebraska and Beyond

Heartland fourth graders listen and interact as Bernard Thiessen shares stories of his tornado experiences.

Copies of the newly published book titled, Dizzy Disasters: Nebraska and Beyond are still available for purchase at the Heartland school office.  The fourth graders at Heartland have been busy researching tornado stories through interviews, phone calls, letters, historical documents and newspaper articles and have compiled numerous stories, photographs, and statistics connected to their towns of Bradshaw and Henderson, as well as other towns in Nebraska and surrounding states.  These historical researchers have donated their books to the Henderson Heritage and Tourism Committee for the committee to sell, and the proceeds from the sales will go towards the Immigrant House project.

Heartland’s enthusiastic fourth graders would like to invite everyone to attend their book signing on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Immigrant House site, located on the spur one mile north of Henderson.  Everyone is welcome to come and tour the Immigrant House, which is a work in progress and buy copies of the book.  Dizzy Disasters: Nebraska and Beyond.  The fourth graders will be available for book signing and some storytelling while touring the Immigrant House.

Don’t miss this chance to receive your own personal autographed copy, while supporting the Immigrant House Project.  It will be a day to remember the stories brought about from the ever-changing weather of “Tornado Alley.”

In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Thursday, May 20, 2004.
