Elementary Classes Cancelled

Illnesses are on the Rise

This week, we have seen a large number of illnesses amongst students and staff here at school.  This morning, we have over 30% of our elementary students and over 15% of  students in grades 7-12 home with illness.  We also have 8 staff members at home and unable to work and it is very difficult to find substitutes for classes.  Those number continue to rise as the day goes on.

Heartland Community Schools are canceling classes for students in grades PK-6, including all elementary activities, until Monday, January 17th.  Our building will be closed to all elementary students until Monday. Students in grades 7-12 will continue in class as normal the remainder of this week and evening high school activities will continue as scheduled, at this point.  We encourage students and staff in grades 7-12 to wear a mask for the next two days while at school.

We would like to emphasize that if your child is ill, please do not send them back to school unless they are fever free, without medication, for at least 24 hours.  We would also encourage that if you have illness in your home, to strongly consider keeping your other children at home due to exposure.  Please consult your local health care provider if you have any questions.

We appreciate your continued support and if you have any questions, please give us a call.  We hope that you are able to stay healthy!
