Heartland FBLA's "Dimes for Diabetes"
February 05, 2010
The Heartland FBLA organized a fundraising drive for the American Diabetes Association during the week of January 18. We set a goal of raising $1,000 in one week. To motivate the students in our fundraising drive, Mr. Ehly agreed to shave his beard if we reached our goal. Well, if you have seen Mr. Ehly lately, you know we raised more than $1,000.
Thanks to the Heartland community, we raised a total of $2,212.96. The funds were raised in a variety of ways. First, we encouraged the students to donate by having a class competition. The class that raised the most money won a pizza party. The third grade class won the pizza party by donating $474. 92. We then had a 3-point shooting contest at halftime of the Heartland-Centennial basketball game. If the participants made a 3-pointer, they won a 2-liter bottle of pop. Finally, we passed the bucket at the Heartland-Sutton basketball game.
We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported our community service project. The American Diabetes Association is a very worthy cause, and we are excited about donating so much to this organization.
