FFA members help the school recycle old and broken technology equipment for the Heartland Community Schools on August 2nd.  Apple Corporation offers a free recycling program for schools who purchase new Apple computers.  In May of 2010 the school was awarded a grant to purchase new Macbooks as well as other new technology.  This grant made the school eligible for this green project.  The requirements were to have at least 25 items, the items had to be shrink-wrapped and placed on pallets.  Also on the day the truck arrived, the school needed a fork lift for loading the pallets.  The FFA members were willing to take part in this project by having five members help to load and shrink wrap the broken hardware onto pallets.  It was a hot August summer morning when the job was completed.  The FFA members who helped on this day were:  Tanner Steingard, Daniel Quiring, Andrew Spader, Jarred Erb, and Rick Siebert, as well as the FFA sponsor, Cole Blomendahl.  Matt Quiring helped on the day by supplying the fork lift and using it to move the full pallets for storage until the truck arrived.  A total of 7 pallets were filled. The Technology Coordinator, Margalee Thomas, organized the event and collected the old technology into two areas so it was easier to move the items for the final stage.

Thanks to Apple Company, the landfills will not be filled by the Heartland Schools broken and out of date computers, printers, monitors, and other hardware items but will be recycled or disposed in a safe environmental way.  This is a great service program from Apple Company to help schools go green with the disposal of old equipment.
