Homerooms Combine Teamwork With Fun
by Linda Koehler
The Junior High Homerooms have been participating in various team-building activities recently to bond as a homeroom and have had some fun at the same time. On the October 1 early dismissal, the students had a Slumber Party. They worked within their homerooms to win challenges and earn Huskie Bucks. Relaxing in their pajamas, the students participated in the following challenges: a Pajama Relay (homerooms had to dress in oversized pajamas, robes, slippers and socks as fast as possible), Banana Relay (one lucky homeroom member got to eat the banana at the end), Saran Wrap Obstacle Course (how fast can you move wrapped together in Saran Wrap?), Cotton Ball Catapult Contest (who can propel their cotton ball the furthest?), and Cheese Ball Madness (sticking cheese balls to faces covered with whipped cream). They also decorated pillowcases donated by Super 8 Motel and danced to the music of the 80's with them.
The Student Senate planned Red Ribbon Week activities during the week of Oct. 27-30. Monday was Sock it to Drugs Day and students were encouraged to wear their craziest socks to school. Tuesday students wore as much red as they could. On Wednesday they completed Red Ribbon Week Activity Sheets as a group, and on Thursday there was the Halloween Party. Costumes were encouraged and we had a high participation rate. All in all, the students worked together as a homeroom, learned something, and had a bunch of fun in the process! 7th grader Morgan Michel commented that the most memorable part of the Slumber Party activities was when she was dragged to the finish line by her other teammates during the Saran Wrap race. "It was a unique way to finish the race without walking". "Watching the guys get cheese balls thrown on their faces" was the highlight for 7th grader Aubrey DeBraal. "I like doing activities like these because we get to hang out with our friends, and get to know the 8th graders a little better," Aubrey added.
In November and December the junior high homerooms will be participating in the canned food drive, doing computer challenges with freerice.com and a having Christmas party the day before school is dismissed for break.
