Heartland Junior High Completes Community Service Project
by Linda Koehler
The Heartland Junior High students found out first-hand what it was like to grow up in the 1930's and 40's during a recent community service project. Students visited with a resident of the Henderson Care Center on 3 occasions, interviewing them about their childhood. During the first visit, students quizzed the residents about their family life. Next they found out about what school was like in their day, and lastly they asked questions about what they did for fun. Each visit took about a half hour, and in that time the students received a wealth of information from the senior citizens. Once they got all their information, the students went to work writing a biography of each person for Mrs. Watt's English class. Students indicated they enjoyed the experience to visit with the residents. Emily Ott and Ashley Quiring said "It was a great experience for us to visit with them, because it gave us a chance to see how different things have become. It was so much fun to see them smile, we should definitely do this again next year!"
